ਜਲੰਧਰ ( ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰ ਬਿ)- ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਸਪੀਕਰ ਤੇ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਆਗੂ ਸ ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਿਨਹਾਸ ਦੇ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦੀ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਖਬਰ ਹੈ। ਸ ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਿਨਹਾਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 14 ਦਸੰਬਰ 1935 ਨੂੰ ਪਿੰਡ ਡਰੋਲੀ ਕਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਸ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦੇ ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਮੁਢਲੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਡਰੋਲੀ ਕਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਹਾਈ ਸਕੂਲ ਕਾਲਰਾ ਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਪਰੰਤ ਉਚ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੇਂਟ ਜੇਵੀਅਰ ਕਾਲਜ ਕਲਕੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਐਲ ਐਲ ਬੀ ਦੀ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਕਲਕੱਤਾ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਹ ਆਲ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਫੈਡਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ 1960-62 ਤੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਰਹੇ। ਕਲਕੱਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਫੈਡਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਮੋਢੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਆਗੂ ਸਨ।
ਉਹ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਸਿਆਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਲੰਬਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਤੇ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਆਗੂ ਵਜੋਂ ਵਿਚਰੇ। ਪੰਚਾਇਤ ਸੰਮਤੀ ਆਦਮਪੁਰ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਅਤੇ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਬਣਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਉਹ 1985 ਵਿਚ ਆਦਮਪੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਚੁਣੇ ਗਏ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ 2 ਜੂਨ 1986 ਤੋਂ 15 ਮਾਰਚ 1992 ਤੱਕ ਸਪੀਕਰ ਰਹੇ ।
Chandigarh- Former Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Surjit Singh Minhas expired today. He was Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha from June 2, 1986 to March 15, 1992. He had become MLA on Akali Dal ticket from Adampur.
S. Surjit Singh Minhas, former Speaker of Punjab Legislative Assembly, hails from V & PO Daroli Kalan, Distt. Jalandhar. He was born on Dec 14, 1935. His father’s name is Sardar Bhagat Singh “Akali”. He obtained his primary and secondary education from village Daroli Kalan and Khalsa High School Kalra (Distt. Jalandhar). He did his Graduation and Masters in Political Science from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta. He then obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B) from University of Calcutta. During the college days, he remained General Secretary of Punjabi Literary Society and Urdu Society at St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta for 3 years from 1951 – 1954. He founded a unit of Sikh Students Federation in Calcutta and later on became the President of the All-India Sikh Students’ Federation and held the position for 2 years from 1960 – 1962. In his political career, Mr. Minhas was elected member of Panchayat Samiti, Adampur Doaba, and Distt. Jalandhar and remained in office for 5 years from 1972 to 1977, chairman of Improvement Trust Jalandhar for 3 years from 1977 to 1980. In 1985, he got elected as MLA from Adampur Assembly constituency in 1985. He served as a Minister of State for Irrigation, Power and Parliamentary Affairs from 6th May 1986 to 2nd June 1986 and subsequently was elected to the position of Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha on 2nd June 1986. He relinquished his office on March 16, 1992. He became a Member of the Senate and Syndicate of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar from 1986 to 1991 as well. During his political career of 50 years, Mr. Minhas participated in many Aali Morchas amd agitations and had been to jail on several occasions.

-ਸਿੱਖ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਫੈਡਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਮੋਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸ. ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਿਨਹਾਸ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਸਪੀਕਰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਚਲਾਣਾ ਕਰ ਜਾਣ ਤੇ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਪੰਥ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜਥੇਦਾਰ ਬਾਬਾ ਬਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਕਾਲੀ 96 ਕਰੋੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਦਲ ਦੇ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਸ. ਦਿਲਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਬੇਦੀ ਨੇ ਗਹਿਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰਨ ਹਮਦਰਦੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ. ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਿਨਹਾਸ ਮਿੱਠ ਬੋਲੜੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਿਆਸਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਊ ਤੇ ਸੂਝਵਾਨ ਸਖਸ਼ੀਅਤ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ। ਸ. ਮਿਨਹਾਸ ਨੇ ਲੰਮਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਸਪੀਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਇੰਮਪਰੂਵਮੈਂਟ ਟਰੱਸਟ ਜਲੰਧਰ, ਵਜੋਂ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਸੇਵਾਵਾਂ ਨਿਭਾਈਆਂ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਕ ਸਫ਼ਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਯਾਦਗਾਰੀ ਕਾਰਜ ਕੀਤੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਪੰਜਾਬ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਨਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਘਾਟਾ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਪੈਣਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਿਨਹਾਸ ਪ੍ਰੀਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਹਮਦਰਦੀ ਜ਼ਾਹਿਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
