ਕੋਵਿਡ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਆਜਾਦੀ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਦੱਸਿਆ-
ਵਿਕਟੋਰੀਆ -ਬੀਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ਦੀ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਮਾਈਕ ਡੀ ਜੋਂਗ ਨੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੇ ਹੱਕ ਵਿਚ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਬੁਲੰਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਗਿਰਜਾ ਘਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਗੈਰ ਵਾਜਿਬ ਮੁਕਦਮੇਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਢਲੇ ਸੰਵਿਧਾਨਕ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਮ ਸਥਾਨ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਵਿਡ-19 ਮਹਾਂਮਾਰੀ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਪਾਬੰਦੀਆਂ ਲਾਗੂ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਅਸੈਂਬਲੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਧਾਰਨ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰੇ ਸੂਬੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਿਆਂ ਉਪਰ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਿਆ।
ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਡੀ ਜੋਂਗ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਗੈਰ-ਸੰਵੇਦਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਚਰਚ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਜਿਆਦਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੁਕੱਦਮੇ ਜਨਤਕ ਹਿੱਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁਲਾਂਕਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੀ ਨਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਮੁਕਦਮੇਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਲਈ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਸਰੋਤ ਕਿਉਂ ਖਰਚ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਜਨਤਕ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਲਈ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ, ਤੁਰੰਤ ਖਤਰੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਧਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ? ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਲੀਲ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਇਸ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਰੋਕੇ।
MLA Mike de Jong Defends Religious Freedom, Calls for End to Prosecutions of Churches-
Victoria – In a compelling statement yesterday at the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, MLA Mike de Jong stood firm in defense of one of Canada’s most cherished constitutional rights— freedom of religion, including the right to worship. De Jong is advocating for an immediate halt to what he describes as the unfair and unreasonable prosecution of religious communities.
The COVID-19 pandemic led to the imposition of numerous restrictions, some of which disproportionally targeted religious assemblies, profoundly impacting communities of faith across the province. At a time when British Columbians were permitted to attend a Pilates class, a pub or numerous other activities it was unreasonable to impose an absolute ban on attending religious services.
“During a time when repeat offenders and known criminals are frequently reintroduced into society with scant oversight and face little sanction, it is unconscionable that law-abiding churchgoers are facing persecution for merely practicing their faith,” said MLA de Jong. He emphasized that these prosecutions do not serve the public interest and called for an immediate reassessment of these priorities.
“Why is our justice system expending valuable resources to pursue churches when there are clear, immediate threats to public safety that demand attention?” de Jong questioned. He argued that it is time for the government to stop these pursuits, which he describes as a misallocation of judicial resources and a misstep in upholding the fundamental rights outlined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
