Ottawa, – After nine years of Justin Trudeau, Canadians are
suffering. 42,000 Canadians have died from drug overdoses, while
Canada has experienced an increase in deaths of 166 percent since
the Liberals formed government. In British Columbia, where Justin
Trudeau carried out his reckless legalization experiment, there has
been a nearly 400 percent increase in drug overdose deaths.
Trudeau’s experiment of legalizing hard drugs has been a
catastrophic failure. In the first year of this experiment, 2,500
Canadians died from overdose deaths. Despite this, the Liberals and
their NDP coalition partners have today refused to rule out the
legalization of hard drugs in other Canadian cities.
It’s clear that Justin Trudeau has not learnt from his mistakes. Last
week, the Liberal Government only rejected the City of Toronto’s
request to legalize hard drugs after a weeks-long pressure campaign
by Common Sense Conservatives. And the Liberal Minister of Mental
Health still refuses to acknowledge that their dangerous policy was a
failure.
Today, Trudeau had the opportunity to tell Canadians that he would
not replicate his disastrous legalization experiment in other
communities, but he refused. He also refuses to end his policy of
taxpayer-funded hard drugs, even though these drugs continue to be
diverted to the most vulnerable Canadians.
Vancouver’s Police Department has said that around 50 percent of all
hydromorphone seizures were diverted from the taxpayer-funded hard
drugs that Trudeau dishes out. This means these drugs have ended
up in the hands of organized crime and sold in schoolyards across the
country, leading our youth into the destructive cycle of addiction.
Trudeau must accept that his experiments of legalization and
taxpayer-funded hard drugs have failed and end these programs now
before more lives are lost. Only Common Sense Conservatives will
invest in treatment and bring home our loved ones drug free.
