KHOONI VAISAKHI …. A Tribute to Jallianwala Bagh Masscare

NANAK SINGH was only 21 year old while attending a peaceful gathering of Punjabis at the Jallianwala Bagh , Amritsar on April 13 , 1919 to protest against the Rowlatt Act when Brigadier General Dyer and his British troops opened indiscriminate firing at the congregation celebrating VAISAKHI DAY , which is now known as the JALLIANWALA BAGH MASSACRE . As per the estimation , hundreds died and thousands were injured at one of the most heinous crime against humanity including two of Nanak Singh’s closest friends and so distraught was him that he wrote KHOONI VAISAKHI ( Bloody Vaisakhi ) , an epic poem that mocked the colonial rule which was banned by the British Govt.
Years later , the musical interpretation of KHOONI VAISAKHI is very compellingly shared by HARPREET and translated in English by former Ambassador NAVDEEP SURI , the grandson of the survivor of Amritsar Massacre , and it’s a tribute to the resilience of our heritage and the enduring power of art to tell stories that must never be forgotten !
