Police officers Recognized by Surrey Police Service

Surrey-On October 30, 2024, Surrey Police Service (SPS) recognized the outstanding contributions of police officers and civilian staff for their work in furthering the development of SPS, excellence in policing, and long service. In total, 36 individuals received awards and nine were recognized for their exemplary long service at the third annual SPS Awards and Recognition Ceremony.

Multiple award recipients were recognized for taking decisive actions that saved lives and prevented public disorder. In addition, exemplary investigative work was recognized that resulted in arrests in two attempted murder incidents, seizures of drugs and firearms, and bringing multiple charges against a sexual assault suspect. A detective received an award for creating a computer application that reduces investigative time while capturing video evidence, and five officers received Alexa Awards for their dedicated work in removing impaired drivers from our roads.

Civilian staff were also recognized for their invaluable contributions to building the organization, facilitating Frontline officer deployments, providing support to important SPS initiatives, and advancing the policing transition.

“The annual Surrey Police Service Awards and Recognition Ceremony is an opportunity for SPS employees and family members to recognize important contributions to policing and public safety,” says Chief Constable Norm Lipinski. “The individuals that we were able to recognize truly reflect the excellence that we strive for as an organization.”

This year’s awards ceremony also marked the introduction of the Cedar Award and SPS’s new Generational Service Pin.

The Cedar Award represents a connection between local Indigenous peoples and SPS, recognizing SPS employees who embody the spirit of the cedar through their actions as Guardians (advancing public safety), Providers (exemplary community engagement), or Healers (championing wellness).

The Generational Service Pin honours family members who have served Surrey as an SPS police officer over the generations (grandparents, parents, children, and siblings). SPS is fortunate to have 10 pairs of family members serving with us.
