ਵੈਨਕੂਵਰ ( ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰ ਬਿ)-ਵੈਨਕੂਵਰ -ਫਰੇਜਰਵਿਊ ਹਲਕੇ ਤੋਂ ਐਨ ਡੀ ਪੀ ਉਮੀਦਵਾਰ ਮਨੋਜ ਭੰਗੂ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਬਿਆਨ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਸਕੈਚਵਨ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਰੈਕੇਲ ਹਿਲਬਰਟ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਤਾਜ਼ਾ ਟਿੱਪਣੀਆਂ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਨੇ ਐਨਡੀਪੀ ਲੀਡਰ ਜਗਮੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ “ਅੱਤਵਾਦੀ” ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਉਪਰ ਗਹਿਰੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ ਗਲਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਮਾਨਜਨਕ ਹੈ – ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਵੀ ਹੈ । ਉਹਨਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਹਾ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਹਿਲਬਰਟ ਨੇ ਮੁਆਫੀਨਾਮਾ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਮਾਫੀ ਮੰਗਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਰਥਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਖ਼ਾਸਕਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਚੁਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੋਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਿਉਂਗਿ ਸਾਡੇ ਜਨਤਕ ਅਦਾਰਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੰਡੀਆਂ ਪਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਬਿਆਨਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਅਸੀਂ ਵੈਨਕੂਵਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਮਹਾਨ ਨਗਰ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ , ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਦਰਾਂ-ਕੀਮਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ – ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ, ਏਕਤਾ, ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ। ਇਹ ਉਹ ਕਦਰਾਂ-ਕੀਮਤਾਂ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਿਭਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਨਿਆਂਪੂਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਵੇਸ਼ੀ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਹ ਹਨ।
ਮੈਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕਮੁੱਠ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਟਿੱਪਣੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।
Vancouver, BC — I am deeply shocked and disappointed by the recent comments made by Saskatchewan Party MLA Racquel Hilbert, in which she referred to federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh as a “terrorist.” This statement is not only inaccurate and offensive—it is deeply hurtful to the Sikh community and to Canadians who value respect, diversity and inclusion.
I acknowledge that MLA Hilbert has issued an apology. However, apologies must be followed by meaningful action. Words have consequences, especially when spoken by elected officials. I would encourage that all Saskatchewan Party members undergo cultural sensitivity training. Such measures are critical in fostering a culture of accountability and ensuring that divisive rhetoric has no place in our public institutions.
As we prepare to celebrate Vaisakhi this weekend with a vibrant Nagar Kirtan in Vancouver, I want to highlight the values this event represents—peace, unity, and service to others. These are the values that define the Sikh community and are the very foundation of a just and inclusive Canada.
I stand in solidarity with the Sikh community, and with all those who have been hurt by these comments. This is a moment to reflect, take responsibility, and commit to doing better—as individuals and as a society.
