ਵੈਨਕੂਵਰ ( ਮਹੇਸ਼ਇੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਂਗਟ, ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰ ਬਿ )-ਇਸ ਐਤਵਾਰ, 15 ਮਾਰਚ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਕੌਂਸਲੇਟ ਜਨਰਲ ਵੈਨਕੂਵਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਵਾਸੀ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ, ਆਰਥਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਵੈਨਕੂਵਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਊਥ ਹਾਲ ਬੈਂਕੁਇਟ ਹਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੂਸਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਸੀ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਾ ਦਿਵਸ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲਿਆ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਨੇਤਾ, ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸ਼ਨਲ, ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਕਮਿਊਨਿਟੀ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਨਿਧ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਸਨ।
ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਈ ਮਾਣਯੋਗ ਹਸਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਮੀਅਰ ਡੇਵਿਡ ਈਬੀ, ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਹਾਈ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਦਿਨੇਸ਼ ਪਟਨਾਇਕ, ਬੀਸੀ ਅਸੈਂਬਲੀ ਦੇ ਸਪੀਕਰ ਰਾਜ ਚੌਹਾਨ, ਕੈਬਨਿਟ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਜਗਰੂਪ ਬਰਾੜ, ਪਾਰਲੀਮਾਨੀ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਸੁਨੀਤਾ ਧੀਰ, ਐਮਐਲਏ ਰੋਹਿਨੀ ਅਰੋੜਾ, ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਸਿਮਸ, ਅਲਬਰਟਾ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਲੀਲਾ ਅਹੀਰ, ਵੈਨਕੂਵਰ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਸਟੀਵ ਰਾਏ ਤੇ ਪਿਕਸ ਦੇ ਸੀਈਓ ਸਤਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਚੀਮਾ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਸਨ।
ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਕੌਸਲ ਜਨਰਲ ਮੈਸਕੂਈ ਰੁੰਗਸੁੰਗ ਨੇ ਆਏ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੀ ਆਇਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਤੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ-ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਮਜਬੂਤ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਹਾਈ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨਰ ਦਿਨੇਸ਼ ਪਟਨਾਇਕ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਬਹੁ-ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ, ਜਮਹੂਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਸਾਂਝੀਆਂ ਕਦਰਾਂ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ ਨੂੰ “ਰੀਸੈਟ” ਨਹੀਂ ਸਗੋਂ “ਰੀਲਾਂਚ” ਕਰਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਡਾਇਸਪੋਰਾ ਵਪਾਰ, ਨਵੀਨਤਾ, ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਪਸੀ ਸੰਪਰਕਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਹਿਮ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਬੀ.ਸੀ. ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਮੀਅਰ ਡੇਵਿਡ ਈਬੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਵਧ ਰਹੀ ਊਰਜਾ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ-ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਵਪਾਰ ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ਦੇ ਜਲਦ ਹੋਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਆਸ਼ਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਦਿਨੀਂ ਇਕ ਉਚ ਪੱਧਰੀ ਵਫਦ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਦੌਰੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਅਰਥਚਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਜਬੂਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੌਮਾਂਤਰੀ ਵਪਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਧੇ ਲਈ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਰਗੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗੀ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੌਰੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਖਾਸ ਜਿਕਰ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ‘ਤੇ ਬੀ.ਸੀ. ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਮੀਅਰ ਉੱਜਲ ਦੋਸਾਂਝ ਨੇ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਉਪਰ ਮਾਣ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਰਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਹਰ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਮੱਲਾਂ ਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਛੋਕੜ ਉਪਰ ਵੀ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਾਣ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਸੀਹਤ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਜਿਸ ਵੀ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਤੇ ਪੁੱਜੋ ਪਰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜੜਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਮੀਰ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਨਾ ਭੁੱਲੋ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਅਲਬਰਟਾ ਦੀ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਲੀਲਾ ਅਹੀਰ, ਕਮਿਊਨਿਟੀ ਆਗੂ ਬੌਬ ਬਿਹਾਰੀ, ਏ.ਜੇ. ਗਿੱਲ, ਰੌਨ ਮੁੰਦੀ, ਲਵਲੀਨ ਗਿੱਲ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਖਾ ਕੋਰੋਥੂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਇੱਕ ਪੈਨਲ ਚਰਚਾ ਵੀ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਗਈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਡਾਇਸਪੋਰਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਭਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ‘ਤੇ ਚਰਚਾ ਹੋਈ। ਇਸ ਪੈਨਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਨੀਤਾ ਹੁਬਰਮੈਨ, ਜਤਿੰਦਰ ਧੀਰ, ਰਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ. ਏ.ਆਰ. ਇਲੰਗੋਵਨ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ, ਜਦਕਿ ਸੁਕੇਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨੇ ਮੋਡਰੇਟਰ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਈ।
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਰਾਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਸਤਕਲਾ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਲਗਾਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ। ਨਾਲ ਹੀ “ਵੰਦੇ ਮਾਤਰਮ” ਦੇ 150 ਸਾਲ ਪੂਰੇ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨੀ ਵੀ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ।
ਇਹ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਭਾਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੇ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਇਆ।
*** 2nd Diaspora Day celebrated in Vancouver-
Vancouver-On 15th March 2026, the Consulate General of India, Vancouver celebrated its 2nd Diaspora Day in Vancouver, recognizing the contributions of the Indian diaspora to Canada’s social, economic and cultural life. More than 600 members of the Indian diaspora community attended the event, which brought together political and business leaders, professionals, students and representatives from community organizations.
The evening was attended by several dignitaries including British Columbia Premier Honorable David Eby, High Commissioner of India to Canada H.E. Dinesh Patnaik, Legislative Assemble Speaker Raj Chauhan, Minister Jagrup Brar, Parliamentary Secretary Sunita Dhir, MLA Rohini Arora, and VPD chief Steve Rai.
During his remarks, High Commissioner Patnaik highlighted that India and Canada share common values of multiculturalism, democracy and global peace and called the renewed partnership between the countries as “relaunch” not just reset. He also noted that Indian Diaspora continues to act as a bridge connecting the two countries through trade, innovation, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
BC’s Premier David Eby, in his keynote address reiterated that BC was well positioned to cater to India’s increasing energy needs. He was optimistic about an India Canada trade deal to take place soon.
The audience was also addressed by BC’s former Premier and recipient of Pravasi Bhartiya award Ujjal Dosanjh; former Deputy Premier of Alberta Leela Aheer, and other business and community leaders Bob Behari, AJ Gill, Ron Mundi, Lovleen Gill and Mekha Korothu.
A panel discussion focused on how the Indian diaspora continues to play an important role in strengthening connections between India and communities across Canada was also organized. The panelists included business and community leaders Anita Huberman, Jatinder Dhir, Ravi Prakash Singh, Dr. A.R. Elangovan and Moderator Sukesh Kumar.
The event also featured special exhibition stalls displaying art and craft of various Indian states, a Vande Mataram exhibition to commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram.
