ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੁਕਤ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਡਾ ਇਕਬਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਸੌਂਧ ਦਾ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ( ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰ ਬਿ)- ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਅਕ ਹਲਕਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਖਬਰ ਦੁਖ ਨਾਲ ਪੜੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੁਕਤ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਡਾ ਇਕਬਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਸੌਂਧ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਵਿਛੋੜਾ ਦੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਪਤੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੁਕਤ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ, ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਨਰੋਤਮ ਸਿੰਘ, ਸੁਪੱਤਰ ਡਾ. ਸਰਤਾਜ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੇ ਦੋ ਧੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਭਰਿਆ ਬਾਗ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਮੁਤਾਬਿਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਦੇਹ ਦਾ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਅੱਜ 15 ਜੁਲਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।  ਸੰਨ 1939 ਨੂੰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਗਤ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ( ਪਿਤਾ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਗਹਿਲ ਸਿੰਘ ) ਵਿਚ ਜਨਮੇ ਡਾ. ਇਕਬਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਸੌਧ ਨੇ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਿਹ ‘ਬਟਵਾਰਾ’, “ਬੁੱਢੇ ਥੇਹ ਦੀ ਹੂਕ”,”ਦਿਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਾਤੀਂ”, ਭਗਤ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਰਚਨਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੇਤ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੀ ਝੋਲੀ ਪਾਈਆਂ । ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਖੇ ‘ਭਗਤ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਚੇਅਰ’ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਭਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਹਿਰ, ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੱਧਕਾਲੀਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ‘ਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ । ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਈ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸੈਮੀਨਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਦੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਖੋਜ-ਪੱਤਰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲੇਖਕ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਡਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਬੁੱਟਰ, ਸੁਸ਼ੀਲ ਦੁਸਾਂਝ, ਮੱਖਣ ਕੁਹਾੜ ਅਤੇ ਦੀਪ ਦੇਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਦੁਖ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

We are profoundly saddened to share that  our beloved Dr Iqbal Kaur has left for her heavenly abode today 14 July 2026.
She was an extraordinary woman who led a successful and inspirational life that was defined by compassion and an unwavering commitment to education and service to humanity.
She retired as Chairperson and Professor at Guru Nanak Dev University, where she devoted her life to scholarship  inspiring generations of students and researchers and wrote numerous books and scholarly publications. She was also former President of Nari Chetna Manch an organization aimed to empower women including the literary programs. Beyond her academic accomplishments, she was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and the heart of our family. She found great pride and joy in watching her children and grandchildren pursue  higher education and successful careers as a doctors, dentists, lawyer, engineer and researchers.  Though our hearts are shattered, we are grateful that she led a successful life and left precious memories and remarkable legacy.
May her soul rest in eternal peace
Her funeral will be held tomorrow Wednesday 15 July 2026 at 11 am at Shamshan Ghat Gurdwara Shaheedan Sahib, Amritsar.
